About Susan
Susan James BSc PG Dip Psychotherapy MBACP
Registered: BACP registered psychotherapist
Graduated: BSc Human Biology & Psychology 2006
Trained: University of Birmingham Post Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapy 2012
I am also an IFS level 1 trained psychotherapist (Internal Family Systems psychotherapist) with IFS UK
and an Advanced Drawing & Talking psychotherapist
I have always been very interested in the work of Carl Jung and have completed advanced level training as a Drawing and Talking Psychotherapist which uses his teachings as a basis for more creative psychotherapeutic work with children and teens as well as with adults. These are especially helpful for clients who are experiencing anxiety or who have experienced earlier traumas which may often be difficult to discuss. These 30 minute D & T appointments are usually completed over twelve weekly 30 minute appointments at £30 per appointment. Please enquire for more details to find out if this might be helpful for you.
Early years
I worked as a theatre nurse for some time at the beginning of my working life, and was interested in physiology and health from as far back as I can remember. I’ve always really enjoyed caring for others, and was pleased to be awarded my BSc degree after returning to full time education once my children had started school. My studies in Human Biology and Psychology at that time really sparked a deepening interest in the body mind connection in healthcare - and qualified me to enrol in a further four year training in Gestalt Psychotherapy which I completed with the University of Birmingham in 2012.
A great deal of my work over the last 19 years with the NHS has been with grief and complex trauma as well as working with a wide variety of challenging psychiatric diagnoses.
I have experience in offering gentle support through grief work with clients who have lost loved ones as well as supporting the devastating sadness of miscarriage during pregnancy.
Physical injuries, relationship challenges and separations can be times when we can benefit from additional support and gentle guidance to help make adjustments in our daily lives, to review and process our feelings and to enable us to prepare, ready to step forward towards a new chapter on our life journey when the time becomes right.

Private Psychotherapy practice
I am now able to offer a limited number of 1 to 1 private 60 minute psychotherapy appointments on a weekly or fortnightly basis via Zoom or telephone. Many clients use this safe space as a time to focus on inner healing, to process childhood traumas, work on challenging relationships or to focus within, such as on dream work to help them understand themselves more fully and to create a more fulfilling life.
We can arrange to meet via Zoom or phone to discuss your needs and concerns at no charge before you make a decision about commencing regular therapy.
if we agree to work together my hourly daytime appointment fee is £60 usually prepaid to reserve your appointment each week via bank transfer or via PayPal. A limited number of spaces are currently available.
Spaces for couples therapy are occasionally available, but I’m sorry I have no couples spaces at the moment. Please enquire to be placed on my waiting list for couples work, when spaces become available later in 2026, thank you.
I have many years of experience as a Psychotherapist with the NHS in secondary care and encourage expressive, creative work and journaling for those interested during and between appointments, but no artistic capability is required or expected during our work together.
Whatever your focus, you may use our therapy appointments to focus on your unique and specific needs with professional support and therapeutic guidance working at whatever pace is right for you. It can be very helpful just to talk things through in complete confidence without any fear of criticism or bias, and, of course, everything we discuss remains confidential.
Everyone is unique and so, we start wherever you are and of, course, we can set goals along the way if you have specific aims you would like to achieve.
